You're a queen blessed (or cursed) by prophecy to live multiple lives. The game's goal is to stay alive as long as possible and not fill or empty any meters. If you fill a meter you'll die from people being too happy with you and if you empty them you will die from people being too unhappy with you. So keep them content, but not happy. There's a lot of strategy involved and you can't always make the choice you'd prefer, but always the one that fits the situation.
The objective of the game isn't immediately clear, but you have quests. Things you have to accomplish to further the story. They involve talking animals, vampires, eclipses, travelling merchants, war with neighbouring nations, saints, witches, medieval scientists, assassins, and an explorer's guild.
Tbh half the fun of the game is to explore the extraordinary ways you can die.
Some quests you can only accomplish if you're born under a specific sign so you better keep track of which you're born under when the cycle starts. Some items can save you from dying when the people are too happy with you, and if you're really good you get to ascend the throne after you've killed your husband the king. The struggle is to keep the throne after you've done it.
This game is somewhat repetitive and a lot of the time I felt clueless, but it was always a lot of fun too.
