Stranger Things S05

The end of an era.

We waited until the entire season was out until we watched it. We wanted to watch it all without weeks or months between episodes.

The entire season was epic in every way possible. I loved seeing Hop's relationship with El evolve. I loved the references to earlier seasons. I loved that Will finally got to shine.

I figured out Max's role before she even showed up this season.

For once I didn't feel like the scientific explanation of everything ruined the magic of the thing, as is so often the case when fantastical stories try to legitimise what's happening. Why can't people just let magic be magic? But that wasn't an issue this time.

There are only two things I didn't like with this season. The first is that they left the entire Doctor Kay thread dangling with no resolution. The second is how open-ended they left El's fate. Even if it ends in a bad way I'd rather know, than have this feeble "it's up to you". It's just a cop-out.

The Witcher S04

Season 4, here we go.

Hemsworth was great, but I still miss Cavill. Hemsworth looks too nice. As if he'd be just as inclined to hug you to death as slice you up. He did do a good job as Geralt, though.

The entire season was amazing. Yen's fight against Vilgefortz, Geralt's desperation to find Ciri, Ciri trying her damndest to escape her destiny... It was absolutely great to follow all three storylines.

I had Regis figured out way before the reveal.

Season 5 is allegedly going to be the last season. I really, really hope the end is as good as this season. I need this to end on a good note.

A Man on the Inside S01-02

This show popped up on Netflix and it seemed like a fun ride, so when it was my time to choose a show I chose this one.

It was marketed as a comedy, but there were many profoundly sad moments, which I suppose comes with the territory when the main character is a senior citizens and there are more endings than beginnings left in life.

That said, he gets up to a lot of hijinks for someone at 75 years of age, and it's a really fun ride most of the time. The end of the first season was both heart-wrenching and heart-warming.

The second season wasn't as good as the first one, yet it was still a neat mystery with a lot of shenanigans.

We kept calling Charles Michael due to The Good Place xD

Haunted Hotel S01

We randomly found this show on Netflix and it seemed like a cartoon version of Ghosts, which we loved, so we started watching it.

Abadon is the best thing in this entire show and I love his arc culminating with saving his new family, despite getting no glory from it because they'll never know what he did for them.

Every episode was a good story and while there's an overarching story, each episode tells its own little tale.

I hope it continues.

Alice in Borderland S03

We finally watched the third season and it was great. It started off pretty slow and generally the beginning made this season feel like an afterthought, as if this season wasn't really meant to be but came about due to the popularity of the first two seasons. Considering this is based on a manga though, I have no idea whether this is true or if they're just staying true to the source.

It took way too long for Arisu to remember what had happened to him before.

The zombie game was probably the greatest couple episodes of the entire season.

The only really negative I can think of from this season is when they decided to give it the Squid Game treatment and place future instalments in the US. Why would you do that T_T

Squid Game S03

Here we go~~~~~! Finally the conclusion!

Of course the baby is born at the worst possible moment, because when tf isn't it when a pregnant woman shows up on screen. And once that happens everything becomes about that baby. Gi-hun finds a reason to go on after the disastrous events at the end of season 2.

The hide-and-seek game as well as the very last game were both so intense.

I really wished that Jun-ho would succeed in his mission, but instead In-ho gets away mostly scot-free (aside from blowing the whole place to pieces).

I'm not sure whether I'm looking forward to the American version or not. The vibe is likely to be entirely different.

Wednesday S02

This season was a banger! Just as great as the first one.

Didn't expect Cristina Ricci so show up again, however briefly so that was nice. The whole thing with the clockwork heart and Isaac was a nice callback to both Edgar Allan Poe (The Tell-Tale Heart) and Mary Shelley (Frankenstein) and I'm all here for more gothic callbacks :3

I despise Enid's storyline. Just let her be happy T_T I did love getting more backstory on Morticia and Gomez though. And the Galpins.

Agnes really, really grew on me in the last few episodes and I hope she gets to be in the next season as well. And I hope Nevermore gets to come back. You can't close a place like that for good! Really excited for the next season!

The Last of Us S02

I knew what was coming for this season, yet it was so hard to watch.

My favourite episode was the one showing the five years Ellie and Joel spent in Jackson. Seeing Ellie grow up and how Joel handles it and how he really tried to appreciate this second chance at parenting. He was always so thoughtful for her birthdays ♥

The last episode when Ellie fights through the storm on the boat, and the eventual killing... It was heartbreaking and absolutely brilliant.

Honestly, all the episodes are super strong, but those two really stuck with me for very different reasons.

Doctor Who S15

Last season with Gatwa and man was it a banger!

I was extremely confused by the whole plot point about the Time Lords being sterile until someone pointed out to me that it was something added by The Master's shenanigans in Jodie's last season (really need to rewatch that, I remember so little from it). The whole story around Poppy was really odd, and honestly one of the weaker episodes despite being the season finale.

I really enjoyed Lux, Lucky Day and The Interstellar Song Contest. My favourite episode was The Well which called back to Midnight, which might just be my favourite episode overall.

The one thing the finale double episode had going for it was how it tied everything together. UNIT, companions past and present, storylines past and present, all coming together for one big adventure in true RTD style. Another reused face though? Really?

I did adore Gatwa's Doctor, though, and I'm really going to miss him ♥

Love, Death & Robots S04

This show is always a good time ♥

1. Close Encounters of the Mini Kind was a top-down fast-forwarded episode about aliens landing in the US and the gun-toting trigger-happy Americans causing the end of the world because they immediately assumed the alien was pulling out a gun rather than literally anything else after it had said it came in peace. The fast-forwarded speed of it all made it completely hilarious, though.

2. Spider Rose was an almost live action looking animation about a cyborg widow running a space station and through circumstances she gets a new pet. And when tragedy strucks again, the pet's true purpose is revealed. This was dark and disturbing, and it definitely lingered.

3. How Zeke Got Religion was a classic cartoon about bomb plane soldiers during WW2. The target they're sent to bomb turns out to not at all be what they were expecting. I'd turn religious too, experiencing that.

4. The Other Large Thing is an animation about how cats are evil and robots don't have morality and only listen to their owners... with catastrophic results. Still, probably one of the best episodes of this season.

5. 400 Boys is a cartoon about the apocalypse and it's really weird, super edgy, and not at all up our alley. Probably one of the weaker episodes this season. Didn't like it at all.

6. The Screaming of the Tyrannosaur was a beautiful animation about a post-apoc space society with gladiator vibes. Probably the best episode this season.

7. Golgotha was a live action episode about aliens coming to earth, but they don't want to see our leaders. No, they want to see a priest, because they're a religious race.

8. For He Can Creep is a cartoon about cats protecting their humans from the devil. It's really cool and really good. One of my favourite episodes this season.

9. Smart Appliances, Stupid Owners is a claymation episode that's absolutely hilarious. Super short, super fun, and exactly what the title says. Appliances are talking to the screen and complaining about their owners. Brilliant!

10. Can't Stop is just a stop-motion music video of Red Hot Chili Peppers as puppets. That's it. This is a music video. A handful of weird things happen in the crowd and to the band that you can't really do IRL, but yeah this is just a music video. The worst episode of the season. Just completely unnecessary.

Castlevania Nocturne S02

This season took us a long time to watch, mainly because the first six (out of eight) episodes were slow af. We found very little motivation to watch it because of how slow it was. The last two episodes is where everything happened and those were decent enough. But six episodes to get there... Where five of them are basically nothing burgers of lore that didn't need to be shown because it had been explained and implied throughout the last season.

The opera sessions were probably there to provide atmosphere, but they proved completely unnecessary and actually just dragged.

Reading back, it seems like the first season suffered from much of the same issue; the first five episodes were very slow going and then everything happened in the last three episodes.

Why can't the sequel ever be as good as the original?

I only liked Alucard in this series.

Even the trailer is 90% the last two episodes.

Resident Alien S02

The second season finally dropped on Netflix and we were pretty quick to start watching it. This second season is a lot more serious than the first one, but there's still a lot of comedy in there.

This season explores Harry's burgeoning humanity and we find out who it really is that wants to destroy the Earth.

I wasn't sure about the entire alien baby plot line but it worked out in the end. Finding out who Goliath really is wasn't as big of a plot twist as it should have been since I figured it out way before they dropped that figurative bomb. But eeeh, it was good enough.

I enjoyed this season a lot.

Black Mirror S07

This season of Black Mirror was sad. Not that it was bad, just that every single made us feel sad in some way.

Common People is about a couple where the wife has an aneurysm and is left brain dead, but new tech can compensate for the area of the brain that doesn't work anymore, provided they pay for a subscription. The husband being heartbroken agrees with it, and as time goes on the subscription gets progressively more expensive as they're forced into higher tiers to be able to maintain quality of life without forced ads. This episode left us sad for the rest of the evening.

Bête Noire was weird about tech that can alter reality and people's perception by playing on the multiverse. Quantum theory science fiction stuff. We didn't much like this one.

Hotel Reverie is about remaking old movies with AI, where they send an actor into a movie via consciousness transferral. But if the actor doesn't stick to the script weird things happen and they may get stuck in the movie unable to go home. The actor can't go home until the movie is complete. It was pretty cool, but also very sad in the end. Emma Corrin is a star.

Plaything is very weird, but Capaldi is amazing. This episode is about a game literally taking over a guy's life and using that guy to literally take over the world.

Eulogy was very sad. Not as sad as the first episode, but it's a story about reminiscing. Delving into memories quite literally via tech and old photographs. By going into the background of those old photographs the guy discovers that multiple misunderstandings, miscommunication and missed opportunities led to him eventually spending his life alone.

USS Callister: Into Infinity was a sequel to season four's USS Callister and this was probably the most brilliant episode of the season. I had a great time with this and it really felt like a high-budget sci-fi movie. Still loving the Star Trek.

The Decameron

This was an odd show we picked up entirely based on the trailer. It's a chaotic comedy about a group of people (nobility and their servants) from the time of the Black Death in the 14th century. They all flee the cities to a villa of a nobleman on his invitation. What happens next is several weeks of debauchery, sex, lies, secrecy, revelations, and death.

I had a really good time with this show, although bf wasn't quite as convinced. I didn't approve of the ending because I felt it wasn't a proper ending, but bf thought it was fitting.

Anyway it was mostly a very fun ride. I could watch it again.

Arcane S02

We finally got around to watch season 2! I had to look up when we watched season 1 and it was all the way back in April 2022! It's been almost 3 years!

Season 2 wasn't as amazing as season 1. It was still really great, but at the same time it felt like it was trying to do too much. There were too many storylines happening all at once and they didn't quite manage to tie it all together before the season was over.

I love Jinx and this season did nothing to make me love her less. It did make me cry over her though.

I spent most of this season being angry with Jayce.

Viktor was the most interesting thing to happen in this entire season.

Ghosts S01-03

We stumbled upon this show on Netflix and thought it looked fun. It was so much fun! Netflix only had the first two seasons, but we found the third season on a different streaming platform so all good.

So the show is about a young married couple. The wife inherits an old mansion from a relative and the couple decides to move in there and make it a B&B. Only issue is that the mansion is very haunted, which the couple are blissfully unaware of until the wife has a near-death experience and comes out of it able to see and talk to ghosts. Chaos ensues.

I adore Isaac and Sasappis.

Squid Game S02

Finally we watched the second season! It wasn't as fantastic as the first season (when is it ever?), but it was still really good and the stakes seem higher even though the game is still mostly the same.

Can't believe Gi-hun really thought all the games would be the same as the last time around. How did it never occur to him that they'd switch it up so he wouldn't have any insights to share? But tbf I didn't see it coming that the boat's captain was part of the game so eeeeehhh...

I really enjoy a lot of the characters this time around and I hope more of them survive and it won't be like last time when Gi-hun walked out the only survivor.

Yet that riot at the end doesn't look promising for everyone's survival. Can't wait for the third season!!

From S01-03

We picked up this show on a whim because the trailer looked interesting and it turned out to be so good.

So the premise is that people seemingly randomly arrive to a town with surroundings that you can't leave. Once you're there you can't get out. If you try to drive out you'll somehow end up in a circle and right back in town where you started. During the night there are monsters that come out to eat you. They look just like smiling friendly people until you get close enough and then they're just monsters with too many teeth who'll disembowel you and eat your insides. Lovely stuff.

The first season follows a newly arrived family and their issues with accepting that they can't leave all the while figuring out more about the place. The appointed sheriff, Boyd, has been in town for quite a while and is on a similar journey to find out how the place even functions.

The second season follows in much the same vein and towards the end of it we found it has become pretty repetitive that every new thing they try is met with eventual failure. However, the third season is when shit goes down. Every single episode was a rollercoaster and that season finale... omfg.

Just as with Resident Alien we found the show on Netflix, but Netflix only had the first two seasons so then we had to go on a quest to see if we could find the third season anywhere. We found it on a separate streaming service, provided by one of the ordinary TV broadcasters. Signed up and paid for a month to finish the show, only to find out that despite paying this streaming service has ad breaks several times through a single episode. It's just like TV ._.

Anyway, great show. Can't wait for season four :3

I fractured my hand and watched shows for three weeks

On December 2nd I stumbled on the cobblestone streets, fell and landed on my hand, on my way home from work. It hurt but everything still worked so I shrugged it off, went home and went to sleep. Waking up in the afternoon it still hurt, but I could use it somewhat normally. Around noon on December 3rd I discovered that my entire hand was turning blue so I got on the bus to the hospital.

At the hospital I find out there's a small fracture in one of the bones in the hand so I get my hand, fingers and all the way up to my elbow put into a cast. And I'm put on sick leave until January 6th. I've lost the use of my right arm and hand, unable to play games I spent the following three weeks watching TV shows.
  • I caught up on Grey's Anatomy, 1 season.
  • I caught up on Bridgerton, 2 seasons.
  • I caught up on The Crown, 2 seasons.
  • I watched all available seasons of C.B. Strike, 3 seasons
  • I caught up on Call the Midwife, 3 seasons
  • I watched six seasons of Supernatural
When the cast came off on December 23rd I was so fucking tired of watching TV, yet I continued a bit after the cast had come off because my hand got easily tired and achy at the beginning and I had these rehab exercises I had to do to rebuild muscles.

It was my first time breaking a bone and wearing a cast. Gj, me!

The Good Place

For the past month we've been watching this show and it's been a wild ride. About four people and their struggles in the afterlife.

It's been a lot of fun and we both just adore Jason.

In my opinion the first two seasons were the best. The third got a bit off track, only for the fourth season to bring it back. The ending was very final but also very fitting. It was sad, but I liked it.

It's pretty hard to say anything at all about this show without spoiling the plot, but it's a fun show, with great characters and a good story. You should watch it!
