August favourites 2017

Already September?!

Books: I read 3½ books in August. The best one was easily Odinsbarn by Siri Pettersen.

Music:
• Alice Cooper - "Dangerous Tonight" & All That Remains - "Madness"

• Avatar - "Hail the Apocalypse" & Breaking Benjamin - "Medicate"

• Buono! - "Rock no Kamisama" & Children of Bodom - "Blooddrunk"

• Delain - "Sleepwalkers Dream" & GAM - "Melodies"

Games: I played ESO, Trine 2, Dream Daddy, and The Walking Dead: A New Frontier in August. For completely different reasons Dream Daddy and The Walking Dead are tied to the first place.

TV shows: I finished the latest seasons of Broadchurch and Grey's Anatomy. Grey's Anatomy wins.

Other: Sightseeing in Stockholm was a lot of fun!

July favourites 2017

Two weeks late due to computer problems. But it's all solved now so here we go.

Books: With no computer there was a lot more reading. I read 9 books in July. Best one probably has to be Cress by Marissa Meyer.

Music:
• Alice Cooper - "Take it Like a Woman" & All That Remains - "This Calling"

• Amberian Dawn - "Talisman" & Berryz Koubou - "Ai wa Itsumo Kimi no Naka ni"

• Bowling for Soup - "Since We Broke Up" & Cherry Filter - "Nang Man Go Yang-i"

• The Cranberries - "Zombie" & D'espairs Ray - "Kogoeru Yoru ni Saita Hana"

Games: I did manage to play a little bit of ESO and Trine 1 and 2 before my computer broke. But most of July I played Fire Emblem: Awakening on my 3DS. Best game is definitely Fire Emblem.

TV shows: Due to broken computers there wasn't much watching. But I did watch a bit of Buffy and Angel, and also some Doctor Who. Best of those is easy.

Other: In July there was Toni's birthday party and also our annual trip to Malmö, to visit my parents and the annual smalltown festival in my hometown.

June favourites 2017

Books: I read five books in June. Granted that none of them were very big and most things were in Swedish, which makes for a very fast read. The best one I read was Cinder by Marissa Meyer.

Music:
• Alice Cooper - "Salvation" & "Wind-Up Toy"

• Avril Lavigne - "Give You What You Like" & Black Veil Brides - "Lost it All"

• Dark Sarah - "Dance With the Dragon" & "Rain"

• Elder Scrolls Online - "Stagger and Sway" & In Flames - "Scream"

• In This Moment - "Sick Like Me" & Lindsey Stirling - "Shadows"

Games: Only Elder Scrolls Online in June. But Morrowind was released!!!

Tv shows: American Gods, Buffy, Angel, Doctor Who. It's a tie.

Other: Sweden Rock Festival!!! :D

May favourites 2017

Books: I read three books in May. The best one is the same as last month; A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin.

Music:
• AFI - "Miss Murder" & Alice Cooper - "Pain"

• The Almost - "Monster" & Alter Bridge - "Lover"

• Amberian Dawn - "Lost Soul" & CNBLUE - "Love is..."

• Crash Test Dummies - "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" & Daughtry - "Long Live Rock n Roll"

• Evanescence - "Made of Stone" & Sirenia - "The Path to Decay"

Games: I only played Mass Effect: Andromeda and Elder Scrolls Online this month. With the release of Morrowind on Early Access it's a complete tie.

TV shows: The Big Bang Theory, Agents of Shield, and Doctor Who. Easy choice.

Other: The company dinner at Jamie's Italian was great, and so was the summer party at Fotografiska for all of tourism Stockholm.

April favourites 2017

After a busy first week of May I can now finally do this post!

Books: I read three and a half books in April, and by far the best one is the one I haven't finished yet; A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin.

Music:
• Andrew Lloyd Webber - "Little Lotte/Angel of Music" & Bon Jovi - "Livin On A Prayer"

• Di-Rect - "Hey Boy" & Rob Zombie - "The Life and Times of a Teenage Rock God"

• Within Temptation - "Final Destination" & Abney Park - "Breathe"

• Alanis Morissette - "Hands Clean" & Alice Cooper - "Hello Hooray"

Games: Elder Scrolls Online, Final Fantasy VII and Mass Effect: Andromeda. By far the best one has been Mass Effect.

TV shows: Twin Peaks, Big Bang Theory, Agents of S.h.i.e.l.d. and Doctor Who. Not a hard choice.

Other: April started out horribly with the terror attack in Stockholm, but ended beautifully in our engagement.

March favourites 2017

Books: Four books + one manga (in Japanese) in March. Really good work tbh. Favourite has to be Barnbruden (The Child Bride), because even now, weeks later, the plot still sticks in my mind and I find myself thinking about it at the most random times.

Music:
• Dark Sarah - "Dance With the Dragon" & Abney Park - "The Derelict"

• Aerosmith - "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)" & Black Veil Brides - "Die For You"

• Bowling For Soup - "Don't Be A Dick" & brentalfloss - "Donkey Kong Country"

• Buono! - "Early Bird" & CNBLUE - "Diamond Girl"

• Cold - "A Different Kind of Pain" & Cradle of Filth - "The Death of Love"

Games: ESO, Civ 6, Mystic Messenger and Pokémon Go. Favourite spot goes to Mystic Messenger this time :)

TV shows: So many. But favourite spot goes to The Vampire Diaries. The show finalised this month and I loved how they brought back everything from the earliest seasons for the series finale.

Other: Well... it's been a pretty quiet month. Not much out of the ordinary.

February favourites 2017

Books: 1 comic, 2 speech collections and 1 novel. I didn't even manage to finish the novel this month but it's still the best I've read in February.

Music:
• Tsuji Nozomi - "Koko ni Iruzee!" & "Maru Maru Mori Mori"

• Yellowcard - "Always Summer" & Sparzanza - "Follow Me"

• Roadrunner United - "The End" & Pollapönk - "No Prejudice"

• Hayden Panettiere - "Don't Put Dirt On My Grave Just Yet" & C-ute - "Kacchoi Uta"

• Breaking Benjamin "Unknown Soldier" & Creed - "With Arms Wide Open"

Games: ESO, The Walking Dead: Michonne, and Until Dawn. Michonne was the best, even if I put a lot more hours into ESO.

TV shows: So many... But the best show is probably gonna be Call the Midwife S06. Because knowing I have an episode of that show waiting for me when I get home from work always makes me so happy :P

Other: Game night and party night were the highlights of this month.

January favourites 2017

Books: I've been working my way through Neil Gaiman's Humble Bundles and I'm almost finished. Apart from the physical book I read, I've read 9 e-books in January. Most of them less than 100 pages so it's not really all that impressive. Best one was easily my only physical book The Shining, by Stephen King.

Music: Last month I had my iPod stuffed full of releases from 2016. Best songs were:
• Green Day - "Revolution Radio" &  Asian Kung-Fu Generation - "Kimi no Machi made"

• Asking Alexandria - "Just a Slave to Rock n Roll" & Avatar - "Black Waters"

• Avenged Sevenfold - "Roman Sky" & Black Stone Cherry - "Born to Die"

• Bump of Chicken - "Colony" & CNBLUE - "Puzzle"

• Dark Sarah - "Dance With the Dragon" & Dee Snider - "We Are the Ones"

Games: I played Skyrim SE, Dishonored 2, ESO, Dragon Age:Inquisition and Baldur's Gate in January. Best game is a tie between ESO and Baldur's Gate.

TV shows: We watched Penny Dreadful S03, Sherlock S04, and The Big Bang Theory S10. I also watched The X-Files S07, Call the Midwife S06 and Grey's Anatomy S13. And we watched the Doctor Who Christmas Special.

Other: Movies! We saw Rogue One at the Cinema, and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. I also really liked visiting the Royal Armoury, and the staff party was also a lot of fun.

December favourites 2016

Books: I read 2 books and 4 comics in December. To choose which one was best is an easy matter.

Music: This month I filled my iPod with female fronted metal.
• Amberian Dawn - "Magic Forest" & "Incubus"

• Epica - "Dancing in a Hurricane" & "Design Your Universe"

• Leaves' Eyes - "Fire in the North" & "Ragnarök"

• Sirenia - "Seven Sirens and a Silver Tear" & "Absent Without Leave"

• Indica - "Humming Bird" & Theatres Des Vampires - "Parasomnia"

Games: The only games I played in December were ESO and Skyrim SE. ESO wins.

TV shows: Out of everything I watched in December (and it was the saem shows as in November) there are only two that come close to being the best, and it's a tie between them. Westworld and X-files.

Other: Double Christmas + New Years! :D December is easily one of my favourite months due to all the festivities.

Thursday, 1 December 2016

November favourites 2016

Books: I read 3 ½ books in November, which is kind of good considering that two of the books were 900 pages, one was a really short e-book, and the half one was another huge book of over 1000 pages that I haven't completed yet. Although, right now the book I haven't finished is the most promising one out of the four, I'll choose from those I did complete, and from those Angels & Visitations was the best one. Hands down. Go Gaiman! :D

Music: When November started I filled my iPod with bands I have less than 10 songs by, and then I mostly listened to Spotify on my phone anyway. I discovered a bunch of new bands (I've heard the names of most of them before but never really listened to them): Silent Elegy, Dark Sarah, Xandria, Amberian Dawn, and Eluveitie.
• Area 11 - "Shi no Barado" & Gyaruru - "Boom Boom Meccha Maccho!"

• Silent Elegy - "Valkyrie" & "Never Meet Again"

• Eluveitie - "Call of the Mountains" & "A Rose for Epona"

• Dark Sarah - "Save Me" & "Memories Fall"

• Xandria - "Nightfall" & Amberian Dawn - "Magic Forest"

Games: This month I've played Fallout 4, Assassin's Creed, Baldur's Gate, Dishonored 2, ESO and Skyrim SE. Best game, I think has to go to Dishonored 2, although I haven't played much of it yet.

TV shows: This month it's been The X-Files, Grey's Anatomy, The Vampire Diaries, Once Upon a Time, Westworld, The Walking Dead, The Big Bang Theory, Agents of Shield, Allt för Sverige, and Historieätarna. Once again I have to say The X-Files, although Historieätarna comes at a very close second!

Other: It was my birthday this month! And I saw Fantastic Beasts! :D

October favourites 2016

Books: I only managed one and a half books in October. Tbf both of them have over 900 pages, so I'm cutting myself some slack. The one I'm currently reading is mind-numbingly dull, and so I have to say the other one, though that one's hardly a favourite either.

Music: I haven't listened to much music this month. But here are a few songs that I remember:
• Alice Cooper - "Wicked Young Man" & "Salvation"

• Nightwish - "Crownless" & Within Temptation - "The Heart of Everything"

• Morning Musume - "I WISH" & Buono! - "Rock no Kamisama"

• Hollywood Vampires - "School's Out/Another Brick in the Wall" & Marilyn Manson - "The Gardener"

Games: This month I've played Dragon Age Inquisition, Elder Scrolls Online, Fallout 4 and Skyrim Special Edition. Out of those I'm going with ESO, just because I had so much fun during my last turn there.

TV shows: So many shows. I'm watching all the current ones: The Big Bang Theory, The Walking Dead, Westworld, Agents of Shield, Fear the Walking Dead, Grey's Anatomy, Once Upon a Time, and The Vampire Diaries. On top of that I've also watched some X-Files, and the latest season of a Swedish reality show about Americans coming to Sweden to find their Swedish roots and compete to meet their living relatives. Out of all of those shows I'm currently the most excited about X-Files.

Other: Nothing much has happened this month. Most exciting things I guess were the Fantastic Beasts live event, and the temporary Harry Potter shop at the central station in Stockholm.

September favourites 2016

Books: In September I read three books and a comic, and I started on a fourth book. Favourite book of the month has to be Expedition to the Mountain of the Moon by Mark Hodder. Although that book made me mostly sad, I can't help but love his steampunk series ^^

Music: I haven't been listening to much music this month. For some reason I haven't felt the need to block out other people on the train and so no music. But when I have listened it's mostly been The Pretty Reckless and In This Moment, with a little Blutengel, Avatar and Cradle of Filth.
• The Pretty Reckless - "House on a Hill" & "Only You"

• In This Moment - "Blood" & "Dirty Pretty"

• Blutengel - "Lucifer" & "Reich Mir Die Hand"

• Avatar - "Bloody Angel" & Cradle of Filth - "Nocturnal Supremacy"

• Blutengel - "Soultaker" & In This Moment - "Daddy's Falling Angel"

Games: In September I've played Far Cry 3, Magicka, The Witcher 3: Blood & Wine, Oblivion, and ESO. My favourite game out of those have to be Blood & Wine. The Witcher 3 was one of those games that I didn't realise how much I had missed until I was playing it again. Now a part of me wants me to replay the whole series, while another part of me keeps screaming at that part that "No! It's too long!" So yeah...

Tv shows: So what have I been watching in September? The Tribe, Star Trek: TOS, The Strain, The Big Bang Theory, Fear the Walking Dead, Agents of Shield, Once Upon a Time, and Grey's Anatomy. I'm hard pressed to pick a favourite, because they all have their faults. But I guess I have to say Agents of Shield this month.

Other: Got my first tattoo, and went on my first cruise this month. I also met up with Tiffany for the first time in three years and that was great :)

August favourites 2016

Okay so when I said that August was more autumn-y than the other summer months I didn't mean that the weather should turn autumn immediately. But that's basically what happened. A very rainy and unusually cold August has come to an end.

Books: I've managed four books this month. I thought I'd only manage one, because it was very long, in small print and old-fashioned language. But I still managed three more! :D I'm not sure which my favourite this month is, because they all had their faults although I liked all of them. But I think I'm getting on the hype train for The Fault in Our Stars.

Music: Mostly J-pop this month. I've sort of rediscovered the glory of old Morning Musume. But also some other things.
• Berryz Koubou - "Ai wa Itsumo Kimi no Naka de" & "cha cha Sing"

• Mitsui Aika - "Watashi no Miryoku ni Kizukanai Donkan na Hito" & Muten Musume - "Appare Kaitenzushi"

• Morning Musume - "Dou ni ka shite Douyoubi" & "21 seiki"

• Akagumi 4 - "Akai Nikkichou" & Hello! Project - "Hello! Mata Aou ne"

• Kyo - "Récidiviste" & The Ink Spots - "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire"

Games: I've played a fair few games this month. I completed Game of Thrones. Played two mods for Skyrim. Started a new playthrough of Dragon Age Inquisition. Got a craving for The Sims Medieval and played that. Got stuck in Oblivion for about a week. Played lots and lots of Pokémon Go, and also almost completed Far Cry 3. I also played the first episode of The Walking Dead: Michonne. But favourite game of the month still has to be Oblivion. I was sort of scared all the time the last time I played it and I accidentally rushed through it because of that. This time I'm taking my time and I'm rediscovering it and seeing it in a completely new light.

TV shows: This month I've watched Charmed, The Strain, The Tribe, and Fear the Walking Dead. Out of those four I have to say The Tribe, but mostly for nostalgic reasons. I watched it all the time when it was on TV 12-15 years ago and I loved it back then. So I decided to watch through the show properly, and although it's obvious it's a show for teens and children there's just so much nostalgia love that I can't help myself.

Other: Anything else important that happened in August? My love for Harry Potter was rekindled with the Cursed Child. Other than that, nothing really special.

July favourites 2016

The very, very hot second third of summer has passed. Bring on the final third! The more autumny and nice third.

Books: Apart from finally finishing my set of 16 books of the Three Musketeers I also finished four more books and started on a fifth. Favourite book of this month is the illustrated version of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Are you surprised? That book never gets old, I still feel the magic even after having read it more than 20 times...

Music: There's a nice mix of songs this month. Mostly just songs that have stood out to me these past days.
• In This Moment - "Bloody Creature Poster Girl" & "Adrenalize"

• Berryz Koubou - "Ai wa Itsumo Kimi no Naka ni" & "Kanpaku Sengen" (feat. Mano Erina)

• Love Never Dies - "Love Never Dies" & Les Misérables - "Turning"

• Dragon Age: Inquisition - "Empress of Fire" & Elder Scrolls Online - "The Plane Meld"

• Sophie & Magaly - "Papa Pingouin" & Hangry & Angry - "Reconquista"

Games: In July I've played Clockwork Tales, The Forgotten City (Skyrim quest mod), Total War: Shogun 2, The Sims 4, Pokémon Go, and even started on the Game of Thrones RPG (not the Telltale one). I also started up a new playthrough of Oblivion, but I'm trying to pace myself with that so I can keep working on my ever-growing backlog. I think this month it's a tie between Shogun 2 and Pokémon Go. Pokémon Go for being so heavily anticipated everywhere, and for being a game that brings almost all of my friends together for something very special to talk about. (Even if none of them are on the same team as me #TeamMysticWillReignSupreme)

TV shows: This month I've watched 7th Heaven, Charmed, Game of Thrones, Agents of Shield, The Strain, The Vampire Diaries, and The Originals. Out of those Game of Thrones definitely wins. Although that ending of season 3 of Agents of Shield really brought up more questions than answers.

Other: Went to Malmö to visit my parents and go to the local annual festival. Also met up with a bunch of friends while there.

June favourites 2016

A third of summer gone already! And this was the nice third. Oh, well, bring on the other two...

Books: I thought I'd manage to complete the set of books I started reading at the end of last month by now, but things have gotten in the way and so I haven't. I'll probably be done in a couple of days, though. And until then I'll keep it a surprise. Let's just say, for now, that they are really amazing!

Music: So last month when I had loaded my iPod with Sweden Rock music, I totally fell for Lordi again. So for June I loaded my iPod with music from my teen years. And you can bet I fell for Avril and Simple Plan again. But a few other groups from my teen years made it on the list as well.
• Avril Lavigne - "Here's To Never Growing Up" & "Give You What You Like"

• Simple Plan - "Outta My System" & "Freaking Me Out"

• Within Temptation - "Grenade" & Nightwish - "Dark Chest of Wonders"

• Panic! At the Disco - "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" & "There's a Good Reason..."

• Simple Plan - "Rest of Us" & Avril Lavigne - "Bad Girl"

Games: What have I been playing this month? A short trip in ESO, the Fallout 4 DLCs and Portal 2. Out of them I have to say Fallout 4. Or more specifically Far Harbor.

TV shows: Hmm, it's been Twin Peaks, 7th Heaven and Charmed this month. As well as catching up on Once Upon a Time and Agents of Shield, as well ass watching Game of Thrones every week. Difficult choice. But Game of Thrones wins with Twin Peaks at a close second.

Other: Sweden Rock was this month! I also did a short work course to be able to log more hours, which I'm really looking forward to (though I'm a bit nervous about doing the new things on my own later). Then there was Midsummer last weekend, which I couldn't really do anything about because we were both working all of that weekend. All I did was buy us some strawberries ^^

May favourites 2016

Where did May go? Didn't it just start? :o As usual I'm ambivalent about the recent summer weather. Part of me loves it, another part hates the heat, hates sweating, hates sunblock... But for now it's new so I'm mostly enjoying it. Remind me of that in August, when I'm just waiting for it to go away.

Books: This month I've technically read six books, but considering that four of them are part of a larger whole. I'll say it's really just two and a half books. My favourite this month is my second Alice Cooper biography. This one he was in on writing himself, and so it felt much more personal and earnest. Everything mentioned in the first biography was explained more in detail (which is funny because the first book is bigger). I've never been a fan of biographies before, but that's really starting to change.

Music: For May I loaded my iPod with music by bands/artists who are coming to Sweden Rock this year as a sort of preparation. Lordi is coming, and just like that I've rediscovered my love for them. But I've also been playing other things. Here's my top ten of songs in May (you'll see I've been looping Lordi):
• Lordi - "Monsters Keep Me Company" & "The Riff"

• Avril Lavigne - "Hello Heartache" & Sixx:A.M. - "Skin"

• Lordi - "It Snows in Hell" & "Beast Loose in Paradise"

• Lordi - "The Children of the Night" & Nightwish - "Last of the Wilds"

• Lordi - "Evilyn" & Sixx:A.M. - "Life is Beautiful"

Games: I don't know :P I completed the story of the DLCs in ESO this month and for now I'm feeling pretty done with it. But I'll probably pick it up soon again as the new DLC released today on PC and in two weeks on console. But I also completed my first major quest mod in Skyrim and I played the first Portal. I'll go with ESO again this month. I did play that the most anyway :)

Tv shows: This month has been mostly about X-Files and Buffy for me. I have this whole 20th century thing going on with TV shows, but it's mostly focused around the 90s xD Both of them are big time favourites!

Other things: There was ESC this month, which was awesome :D And I also enjoyed the work trip to the Royal Stables and Jamie's Italian. And today there was another work trip to another museum - The Nordic Museum, which was very interesting, but I don't have any pictures from that so I direct you to their website.
